3 Ways To Improve Your Local Search Ranking On Google

GOOGLE MY BUSINESS​

First and foremost, if you haven’t claimed and verified your local business’ Google My Business listing, DO IT NOW! Seriously, go to www.google.com/business​​ and get this done. We will still be here when you get back.​

Awesome! By claiming and verifying your Google My Business Listing, you’ve just increased your chances of showing up in the Google 3-Pack, Google Maps and in organic search results. But you’re not done yet!

Make sure you fill out all the information Google needs for your business. This will make sure that your listing will have all the data people searching your business will need. Adding photos and creating posts is another great way to get the attention of potential customers.

As you can see, we’ve got our address, business hours, phone number, link to our calendar, photos, a post for our Reputation Management Tool​, and some reviews.

There’s even more info you can add depending on your business so make sure to spend some time on this. It’s well worth it.

LOCAL CITATIONS

You’re probably thinking, “what the heck is a local citation”? No worries, it’s really simple. A local citation is an online mention of the name, address, and phone number (NAP – we’ll get to this later) of a local business. Think places like Yelp and Facebook. Having quality local citations will boost your Google rankings. Be careful though! Poor quality or spammy directories and listings can actually have a negative impact on your rankings.​Here are a few good sites to list your business on:

  • Apple Maps
  • Bing
  • Facebook
  • Google My Business
  • YP
  • Yelp
  • Your Website

When you’re listing your business make sure to be very careful with your name, address, and phone number (NAP)!  Inconsistent NAP across those sites that your worked hard to list your business on will actually hurt your ranking so take care! Also, be sure you don’t have duplicate listings on the same site. Google isn’t fond of that either!

REVIEWS

Reviews is one of the easiest ways to help your position in the local search results. The hard part is getting your customers to leave those reviews!

According to Google- “​High-quality, positive reviews from your customers will improve your business’s visibility and increase the likelihood that a potential customer will visit your location.

“Moz.com – “​Reviews may be the most influential Internet factor for any local business.“​

BrightLocal did a survey​ showing that 97% of consumers looked online for local business in 2017​ and 73% trust a local business with positive reviews!
